Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “a word you have to look up.” We all have words we can never spell. Use one of yours in your post and let that word drive your stream of consciousness where ever it goes. Have fun!
I jumped the gun on posting this, but I figure it is better early than not at all. Besides, it is Saturday somewhere right now.
Hello, poor, old forgotten blog. Except I have not forgotten it, or even close to it. Nor have I forgotten the people in this community blogosphere. I keep meaning to…
I would like to restart blogging because I think it is healthy for me, and I need to be doing healthy things, things that I like.
What I don’t like is spelling. It has been the bane of my existence. I’ve always had a decent vocabulary, and the frustration of not being able to spell half of the words. There is a corollary to that, and that is: Knowing words only by reading them and never hearing them. That causes some embarrassing moments at times. Before paradigm became so ubiquitous, I had only read the darn word. And yes, you can imagine how I said it the first few times. :::facepalm:::
Let’s see, there’s desert and dessert, one is sand and one you want to eat, but which is it? Forest. Forrest? Trees. Lots of trees. Bureu… burocracy… bure… the government of officials. Not only does it help to have a good vocabulary but also to understand synonyms. I can’t think of what they are now, but I’ve had words so mangled in spelling that I cannot look them up in the dictionary! Even as a kid I used to wonder, “Why do the adults say to look up the word I can’t spell? If I could look it up, I could spell it.” I suspect that the adults were not looking to teach me to be self-reliant, but instead none of them could spell the words either.
Thank the gods for spellcheck. Spell check? Spell-check? Hyphens, close enemy of inability to spell. We hates them. They are tricksty.
Whiskey, with or without the e? Same problem with horney. Horny. Those two could show up in a sentence together, and they probably would, and the scene would be at the border of where the des(s)ert meets the for(r)est. It would be very mischevious, mischee… mis… sigh… impish for those things to occur simultaneously.
There are multitudes of words that I can’t spell. They are eluding me at the moment. I know some are hilarious, based on reactions I’ve gotten from my friend Nic when we are IMing each other and I can’t claim “it was a typo.” (Although I usually try that.) I haven’t yet started creating portmanteaus (why can I spell that?) out of the blue, but that is probably just a factor of time.
Howdy, again. Hope to see you next week, or sooner. Thanks, as always, to Linda for the prompt. I’ve missed you, girl, and your prompts. ♥
As always, the featured image is one of my digital images, without editing, from Second Life.
Great to have you back!

Welcome back! And desert and dessert? Yep! Always mix those two up when trying to spell them! Hehehe

As long as you are only messing up desert and dessert in spelling and not in the eating, you’re good. 🙂

What a way to hit it out of the park on your first day back. So glad you’re here sharing your witty post with us. My brother said the same when mom told us to look stuff up. He’d say she probably can’t spell it either. Lol good memories.

Heh. I didn’t figure out that the adults probably couldn’t spell the words either until much later… as an adult. 🙂 I don’t think that would have gone over too well if I had said that, too! 😀

I wasn’t brave enough but my brother would mutter under his breath. We all knew what he was saying.

I’ve missed you too! So happy to see you back, my dear.
I’m with you on the not having a clue where to even start to spell a word. That’s when I go straight to the thesaurus. 😀
