Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “social.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
With all of the “socials” swimming around in my head at the moment, such as Social Security or social support, the first thing that came to my mind when I read social was ice cream social! Seriously brain? I’m not even hungry, and you come up with ice cream social? I’ve never even been to an ice cream social. Are they still a thing? It sounds so 1950s. A quick dash to teh googles shows that they are still a thing, complete with computer generated graphics for promotions.
Wikipedia informs me that:
An ice cream social (also known as an ice cream party) is a planned event the primary focus of which is ice cream served to the guests. It is often a neighborhood event or welcoming party, normally held during the summer. Ice cream socials are a traditional gathering dating back to the 18th century in North America.
Numbers seem to differ on which state has the highest per capita intake of ice cream, but New Hampshire is always one of the top ranked, and we also have one of the highest ice cream vendors/shops per person. New Hampshire even has an Ice Cream Trail where you can travel the state, tasting ice creams, much like the wine trail in Napa. I don’t think I needed to know this, and now I’m craving ice cream at 5:30 in the morning. There’s a nice shop down the road from me I could visit; I wonder when they open?
Now I wanna go to an icecream social! That sounds like fun!

I didn’t know ice cream socials were still a thing until the church we used to attend had one. It was organized by someone close to 80, though.

We have Strawberry Socials here.
But, oh, ice cream. I recently bought a box of chocolate ice cream bars and now I need one every night.

Love this post. I went there in my post as well … sort of. I’m craving ice cream too. I might even make the drive to the store for a pint of mint chocolate chip or cordial cherry goodness.
