One-hundred words to tell your whole story
No more no less — brevity is the key
To impress with perfect intro glory
Then on — to the midpoint ramp seamlessly.
Develop the characters round not flat
Always with your faithful readers in mind
Their interests hard to hold even at that
Short genius of the literary kind.
Characters meet crisis — you build your arc
Precious word on precious word apex bound
Craft the slip and fall to denouement art
Panicked cries at thirty extra words found.
Though few words means it’s harder to write them
Patience rewards you with a little gem.

A little hastily hashed fun today. A 100-word sonnet on writing the 100-word story. I wasn’t trying for 100 words on the sonnet but as it progressed I saw that it could be, and sure enough, with a little work it smooshed in there. Praise be to hyphenates.
